They identified and replaced the board behind the original eavestrough that was less than optimally installed. You can see how it sagged and this led to icicles and overflow that compromised my window sill below. That problem has already been resolved.

Soffit vs fascia

What soffit and fascia are, and why they fail together

They meet at the same corner of your roof, so water that gets past the eavestrough reaches both. That is why we look at all three together.

Fascia
The board along the edge of your roof, fixed to the ends of the rafters. Your eavestrough is fastened to it.
Soffit
The panel underneath the roof overhang, closing the gap between the fascia and your wall. It is often vented so air can reach your attic.
Eavestrough
The channel hung on the fascia that catches water off the roof. When it leaks or overflows, the fascia behind it is the first thing to get wet.
Cross-section of a roof edge: the eavestrough hangs on the fascia board at the end of the rafters, and the soffit runs underneath from the fascia back to the wall.FasciaSoffitEavestroughRafterWallRoof

Rotted fascia and damaged soffit

The rot is the sign. The cause is usually above it.

Your eavestrough is fastened to the fascia board. When it leaks at the seams, overflows, or pulls away from the house, water runs down behind it and soaks the board, and from there into the soffit. Patch the board and leave the cause, and the rot comes back. So we look at the whole edge of your roof, show you what's causing it, and quote the fix that lasts.

Signs your soffit or fascia needs work

  • Soft, rotted or crumbling fascia board, often behind the eavestrough.
  • Peeling paint or dark stains along the fascia.
  • Soffit panels that sag, crack, or have come loose.
  • Eavestrough that leaks, overflows, or pulls away from the board it hangs on.

"Rather than taking shortcuts or covering up the problems, Tibor took the time to explain everything."

Common questions

Soffit and fascia questions from London homeowners

Can you fix just the rotted part of my fascia?

We'll look at it, but rot is usually a symptom. Fascia tends to rot where water gets behind the eavestrough, so replacing the board without fixing the eavestrough means it rots again. We'll show you the cause and quote the repair that lasts.

Do you have to take my eavestrough down to replace the fascia?

Usually, yes. Your eavestrough is fastened to the fascia, so the board can't be replaced with it in place. That makes it the right time to look at your eavestrough too, and we'll tell you honestly whether yours can go back up or should be replaced.

Will my soffit and fascia match my eavestrough?

Yes. We match soffit, fascia and eavestrough, and siding if you're doing that too. Tell us the colour you have in mind and we'll confirm it when we quote.

What warranty do you offer?

Every new install and replacement we do comes with a 10-year workmanship warranty, and siding products also carry the applicable manufacturer warranty. Because we make our seamless eavestrough ourselves, our workmanship warranty is the cover on it, so we build it to last. We'll go through the details with you when we quote.

Can I finance the work?

Yes, through iFinance Canada. You can apply online and get an answer within minutes, with no down payment and terms from 12 to 72 months, on approved credit.

What areas do you serve?

London and the surrounding area, including Ingersoll, St. Thomas, Strathroy-Caradoc, Stratford and Aylmer. If you're nearby but not on that list, call us and ask.
